Position Summary:

Supervises hospital-wide printing services and operations. Responsibilities include: prioritizing and assigning printing schedules; recommending and implementing operating procedures; purchasing printing supplies; estimating printing costs; evaluating equipment maintenance agreements; preparing and monitoring a budget; ensuring the confidentiality of materials in the print shop; supervising assigned employees; and performing Print Shop Technician duties as needed.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience:
Equivalent to a High School diploma with some vocational and/or technical training and three (3) years of printing experience.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
None.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
modern theories, principles and practices of effective supervision; Photocopy and bindery equipment used in a commercial environment; basic mathematics concepts; types of supplies used in a print shop; techniques for dealing with the public; office theories and principles; hazardous materials; department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill in:
assigning, reviewing, planning, and coordinating the work of other employee, providing instruction to other employees, maintaining department standards; operating printing/copying equipment including glue machines, copy machines, cutting machines, collators, etc.; operating commercial grade photocopy machines and bindery equipment; logging and tracking orders; performing routine daily maintenance of equipment; providing customer service; using computers and related software applications; using office equipment; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical print shop/office setting and use standard office equipment; stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work is subject to shift assignments. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this classification.
