Utility Technician III - Treated Water Delivery Sys
Description
Overview The Utility Technician III is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system and the wastewater collection system. This employee must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.
Responsibilities • Repair and maintain water distribution and wastewater collections systems
• Operate backhoe and large excavation equipment
• Apply knowledge of water or wastewater material types, fittings, specifications, tolerances in a manner consistent with the required task
• Protect public health, safety, and water quality through application of proper TCEQ construction, repairs, and maintenance standards
• Ensure proper dosing and disinfection of water mains and repair materials while maintaining compliance with safety standards
• Review, interpret, and train crew members on maps, plans, and technical drawings
• Serve as acting Crew Leader in the absence of the assigned supervisor
• Prepare and manage permits for street cuts and confined space entry while ensuring traffic control plans, trench safety, and overall worksite safety practices are followed
• Coordinate installation of well point systems and by-pass pumps while planning and leading the installation of large-volume commercial and residential meters
• Create and manage work orders and accurately logs time, materials, equipment, and work performed in the Computerized Maintenance Management System
• Provide customer service while coordinating job site activities with engineers, construction inspectors, other City departments, and external customers
• Train staff on wastewater system maintenance, cleaning, and CCTV inspection, as well as CDL requirements and proper equipment operation
• Review, interpret, and train staff on maps, plans, and technical drawings
• Train staff to install, program, and maintain AMR components and to perform water service turn-on and turn-off for residential, commercial, and industrial customers
• Lead and train staff to investigate and resolve issues within water distribution and wastewater collection systems in the absence of the Crew Leader
• Perform additional duties as assign
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work week
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED
• Three (3) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring
• Any one of the following licenses at time of hire: TCEQ Class D Water, Class D Wastewater, Class I Collections, or Class D Distribution

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
