The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness , and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance use. The Department of Child Support Services is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Child Support Specialist I vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.

Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.

During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.

Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Child Support Specialist I.

Requirements

Requirements to Qualify

Option I: Two years of clerical experience assisting Child Support Officers in either the Child Support Services Department or the District Attorney's Office.

Option II: Three years of office clerical experience including one or more of the following areas: 1) interviewing the public in connection with applications for employment, insurance, public assistance or similar services; 2) collections work; or, 3) responsible, high-volume public contact which involves problem-resolution and/or the exchange of technical or sensitive information and the use of an automated system.

Option III: Completion of 60 semester units in an accredited college, nine units of which must have been in the social sciences, such as sociology, psychology, anthropology, history, or political science.
