Utility Technician I - Laguna Madre Wastewater Plant
Description
Overview The Utility Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the six (6) Wastewater Treatment Plants and the City's lift stations These positions are also responsible for the maintenance and operation of the wastewater collection lines. Employees must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.
Responsibilities • Conducts preventative maintenance on engines, generators, pumps, settling tanks, filters, and chemical feed systems
• Completes basic to intermediate process control testing, including DO, pH, residual analysis, sludge quality, and sulfide levels
• Responds to emergency chemical releases, including containment and evacuation procedures
• Demonstrates knowledge of plant flow and treatment processes
• Performs lab analyses and records residual data accurately
• Maintains inventory of treatment chemicals
• Monitors distribution system pressures remotely
• Operates pumps, motors, and valves through remote systems
• Receives and verifies chemical deliveries
• Applies knowledge of TCEQ regulations in daily operations
• Performs other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work week
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED
• No prior experience is required
Licenses and Certifications Required• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
