Description
RoleYavapai County School Superintendents Office is seeking a compassionate and dedicated
School Nurse , with an anticipated start date of July 20 th . Previous school nurse experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical skills, effective communication, and a commitment to supporting the health, safety, and well-being of all students and staff while fostering a positive learning environment.
This is a contract position, and benefits will be determined by the employment contract.
Major Duties, Responsibilities- Analyzes student immunization records for state mandated compliance.
- Administers vaccines following Center for Disease Control guidelines; Manages vaccine storage in compliance with Federal Vaccine for Children program.
- Consults and counsels families, school staff, and medical providers regarding specific health needs of students.
- Transcribes student health data to student health records.
- Participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings for student health needs.
- Serves as a resource to school administrators for student health procedures.
- Accesses immunization records through the Arizona State Immunization Information System.
- Reviews and evaluates current school health needs; Provides education to students and staff regarding health and safety topics.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) from an accredited school.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience working with families in school health care setting, private clinic, or hospital or Public Health pediatric health assessment experience. Requires current experience in administering childhood immunizations and hearing and vision screening.
Additional Requirements:Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
Must possess current Arizona Registered Nurse (RN) License.
Must possess current CPR and First Aid Certification.
Must possess a current Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card.
Other SkillsRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of:- Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
- Clerical office practices and procedures.
- Research techniques and report writing.
- Current Microsoft Office software.
- Filing and recordkeeping.
Skill in:- Nursing.
- Demonstrating care, concern, and courtesy when dealing with school-aged children.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
- Organization and adherence to detail.
Ability to:- Provide nursing services within the scope of the Arizona Nurse Practice Act.
- Professionally coordinate multiple program requirements and responsibilities efficiently.
- Monitor and report communicable disease to the Yavapai County Health Department. Perform extensive travel to rural schools in Yavapai County. Requires flexibility as school needs change.
- Maintain and uphold regulations and laws related to confidentiality and reporting of child abuse.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
- Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
- Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
- Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
- Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
Work Environment:The work environment is associated with various school clinics and requires frequent travel. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated. Includes exposure to loud noise, bloodborne pathogens, and chemicals.
Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to bend, crouch, and lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
