The Austin Police Department (APD) Data and Analytics Division is launching an internship program that is designed to provide comprehensive exposure of APD operations to candidates who are enrolled in university. The program seeks to provide interns with experience in working in a fast-paced law enforcement environment and utilizing data analytics to drive business operations. Interns will engage weekly on utilizing statistical methods as part of a diverse team of researchers and analysts. As interns with the APD Data and Analytics Division, their primary focus will be related to data collection and analysis to support ongoing department initiatives. Our goal is to provide each intern with a broad range of unique opportunities to meet and work with APD employees from around the department.

The internship program will take place between the months of June - September of 2026 (depending on the end of the applicant’s summer semester and the beginning of their fall semester). Interns will be required to attend a minimum of 12 hours per week and commit to a total of at least 150 hours over the summer semester to successfully complete the internship. This internship is 100% in-person and not eligible for remote work. Interns will be expected to maintain a flexible schedule during normal business hours that aligns with department operational needs.

Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions. Travel:
If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
