Engineering Assistant I (Land Development)
Description
Job SummaryThe purpose of this position is to provide inspections of private development projects for the City to ensure compliance with specifications, regulations, and City codes.
FLSA Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Hiring Salary Range: $49,836.80 - $54,820.48, depending on qualifications.
Full Salary Range: $ 49,836.80 - $77,272.00Examples of Duties- Ensures construction sites remain within limitations of approved plans by conducting on-site inspections to ensure compliance with City standards and plan specifications;
- Consulting with contractors, developers, owners, and other city departments; and conducting field surveys of City and private development construction sites to ensure compliance with local, state, and other regulatory requirements.;
- Assists in the review of building permit and driveway permit applications for compliance with applicable codes;
- Work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public;
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others;
- Meet the mental and physical demands of the job;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience:- High school diploma supplemented with college courses in related engineering topics (an Associate's degree in engineering technology or related field is preferred); and
- One to three years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of:- Mathematics and routine engineering calculations.
Ability to:- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Deal effectively and courteously with associates and the general public;.
- perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of others.
- Work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- Meet the mental and physical demands of the position.
Skilled in:- Performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks of average difficulty.
Special Requirements- Valid N.C. Driver's License and an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Certification:- Level 1 Erosion and Sediment Control Certification or similar certification.
