Description
Position OverviewThe Henderson Police Department announces the opening of applications for the position of Police Cadet.
Under general supervision, performs entry level work of routine difficulty designed to provide hands on learning experience related to Public Safety in the Patrol Division of the Henderson Police Department; and performs related duties as assigned.
NOTE: May be required to work a flexible work schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours.
PERSONAL HISTORY QUESTIONNAIRE (PHQ): The final step in the selection process is the police background investigation. Minimum Qualifications- Graduation from high school or the equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age and cannot have reached their 23 rd birthday by the time of application (after the age of 20, individuals are eligible to apply for the position of police officer or corrections officer)
- Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483
- Must have no convictions for offenses greater than a misdemeanor. Must have no convictions for offenses of domestic violence
- Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/40 in one eye and 20/30 in both eyes
- Hearing must be 30 decibels or less for each ear
- Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check
- Must obtain and maintain Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification upon hire/transfer and recertify as needed. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment
- Desirable: Participation in the Henderson Police Explorer Program
- Desirable: Coursework from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice

ASSESSMENT DATES: Physical Fitness Test (Pass/Fail) - Wednesday, July 22, 2026 (Best-Qualified Candidates)
Candidates invited to the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will receive an email notice inviting them to self-schedule.
The requirements to pass the PFT are listed below: Exercise Event Requirement Vertical Jump 11.5 inches Agility Run 23.4 seconds Sit-Ups 24 in 60 seconds Push-Ups 18 (no time limit) 300 Meter Run 82 seconds 1.5 Mile Run/Walk 20 minutes and 20 seconds PLEASE NOTE: This is currently the only date offered for the Physical Fitness Test (PFT). In order to continue in the process, candidates must be available for the PFT on 7/22/26 as additional dates may not be available.
