Description
Job Summary Mohave County Public Health-Environmental Health Division is looking to fill an Environmental Health Permits Technician position. We are located at 3250 E Kino Avenue, Kingman, AZ. About us The Environmental Health Division of the Department of Public Health is committed to protecting and improving community health through environmental health programs, regulatory compliance, and public service. About the position This position provides administrative and technical support for environmental health programs, including permit processing, application review, records management, customer service, and regulatory compliance. The position works closely with the public, County departments, and external agencies while maintaining accurate records, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and delivering professional, culturally competent service.

Essential Job Functions- Assists the public in the preparation and submission of permit and plan review applications including answering basic questions.
- Assists other County departments with permit applications.
- Collects fees; enters applications, issues permits, and provides copies to customer, other county offices and the State of Arizona as applicable. Prepares correspondence as necessary.
- Updates data bases.
- Signs off on permit approvals when required.
- Analyzes and reviews submitted applications; assists at the front counter; answers questions on environmental health matters from the public and County staff; determines whether application submittals meet the County and/or environmental health regulations and whether there are any observable errors in the submissions.
- Registers clients for food handler classes, prepares class rosters, and prints food handler cards.
- Receives public health nuisance complaints from the public and generates complaints for assignment to inspector(s).
- Makes recommendations to staff concerning the adequacy of the submitted documents.
- Performs mathematical calculations relative to assigned projects.
- Reviews deeds and legal descriptions and performs office research to gather information on correct legal descriptions and owner of record as required.
- Verifies accuracy of legal descriptions as required.
- Prepares monthly invoices for annually permitted establishments and generates annual permits.
- Receipts monies collected.
- Maintains regular contact with County departments, governmental agencies, contractors, the general public and other agencies while obtaining information and data.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with appropriate personnel and agencies.
- Maintains appropriate up to date records and files affecting assigned work area.
- Answers incoming phone calls and emails.
- Mayprepare daily deposits.
- Create and maintain a supportive work environment with other departments and community programs, Public Health divisions, and Public Health leadership on accreditation domain while maintaining a culture of quality improvement.
- Apply basic principles, practices, techniques, teaching, and communication methods related to the age, gender, race/ethnicity, educational level and socioeconomic status of community members.
- Communicate and act in a cultural competent and professional manner maintaining cooperative relationships with community members, co-workers, and work contacts.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS - Performs related work as required.

- Exercise regular and predictable attendance and punctuality in accordance with Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures.
Minimum Qualifications- High School diploma /GED (General Education Degree).
- One (1) year technical, general clerical support work and/or customer service experience AND
- One (1) year relevant experience in either Permitting, Planning, Zoning, Engineering Technician, Building Technician, Title Company and/or Realtor or related field.
- OR any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT - Must possess a valid driver’s license for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads at the start of employment and maintain said license while employed in this position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Procedures, terminology and accepted or common practices, and policies of the assigned specialized work and the department/area to which assigned.
