Description

Overview

The Primary purpose of the Finance Accountant II position is to perform professional level accounting work involving the analysis and reporting of municipal finances and other tasks related to the practices of recording, classifying, and researching financial transactions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements for the General or other Funds, ensuring accurate reporting of revenues, expenditures, and commitments

• Provide monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting for the General Fund or other funds to Internal stakeholders

• Assist in the development of forecasts and budgets

• Track and monitor expenditures across multiple General Fund departments, ensuring proper allocation of costs and alignment with project budgets

• Review invoices, ensuring they are properly coded and comply with budgetary constraints

• Monitor cash flow and ensure that all expenditures are accurately reported

• Work closely with project managers, finance teams, and other departments to ensure that financial information is accurate and timely

• Provide financial guidance to project managers, assisting them with budget management and financial decision-making

• Identify opportunities for Improvements in financial reporting and tracking processes

• Assist in the development of financial systems and tools to enhance the efficiency of financial management

• Reconcile related accounts and resolve discrepancies as they arise

• Ensure all transactions comply with GAAP (General Accepted Accounting Principles) and internal financial policies

• Support Audits and ensure that project records are fully audit-compliant

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Exempt - Full-Time - Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

• Must be available to work additional hours as needed

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree (BA/AS)

• Three (3) years of experience - Municipal Government preferred

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
