Description
POSITION SUMMARYPerforms advanced skilled trades work in the construction, renovation, rehabilitation, and restoration of city properties and facility maintenance projects.
In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants). This position shall remain open until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSEssential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning essential duties not listed herein if such duties relate to the position.
- May assign and oversee work of construction workers
- Completes minor renovation projects
- Ensures continued operation of building and facilities systems; performs service, repair, and inspections
- Maintains inventory and proper care of tools, materials, and equipment
- Estimates materials needed and workload for projects
- Performs maintenance on city buildings; performs painting and drywall replacement
- Performs concrete / brick paver repairs in city rights-of-way and easements
- Repairs and restores (minor) existing plumbing systems
- Performs general carpentry and other construction type activities
- Installs doors, hardware, locks, etc.
- Develops proposals for projects; creates cost estimates
- Completes minor renovation projects such as bathrooms with little to no assistance
- Performs general property maintenance such as blowing leaves and dumping outside trash
- Assist with remodeling and demolition projects for buildings and structures
- May prepare informal quotes for materials and services
- Performs related work as required or directed by lead worker or supervisor
JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency or trade school completion. Must possess at least five (5) years of construction experience. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads. PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
