Description

Overview

Lead and train Utility Mechanic staff by assigning, monitoring, and quality-checking work orders in Maximo (CMMS). Inspect work performed by Utility Mechanics and contractors to ensure compliance with standards, prepare reports, and provide recommendations to management. Perform preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on pumps, motors, generators, blowers, compressors, treatment plant process equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, piping, valves, drivelines, conveyor systems, gearboxes, speed reducers, filtration and chemical feed systems, and dewatering equipment at wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and other Water Department facilities.

Responsibilities

• Support the Maintenance Supervisor in planning, coordinating, and overseeing daily maintenance operations

• Lead, assign, prioritize, and monitor the work of Utility Mechanics while providing training, coaching, and technical guidance to improve equipment reliability, maintenance practices, and workplace safety

• Maintain accurate and timely work order documentation in Maximo (CMMS)

• Lead routine and emergency troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and failure analysis of pumps, motors, generators, blowers, compressors, treatment process equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, piping, valves, drivelines, conveyor systems, gearboxes, speed reducers, filtration systems, chemical feed systems, and dewatering equipment

• Perform equipment testing, startup, shutdown, operational verification, and system troubleshooting to ensure reliable plant and lift station operations

• Perform fabrication and repair work using power tools, welding equipment, and cutting torches

• Train and supervise employees in the safe operation of power tools, overhead cranes, crane trucks, and other heavy equipment

• Serve as the Safety Officer by promoting compliance with safety procedures related to rotating equipment, hazardous chemicals and gases, confined spaces, elevated work, and other hazardous conditions

• Inspect and evaluate lift stations daily to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient mechanical operations

• Assign and oversee building and grounds maintenance to maintain facilities in a clean, safe, and compliant condition in accordance with TCEQ regulations

• Coordinate with supervisors, inspectors, contractors, and other stakeholders to support the inspection, maintenance, repair, and construction of wastewater treatment plant and lift station mechanical systems

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work week

• Must be available to work additional hours as needed

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Five (5) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.

Required within one (1) year of hire

• Water or Wastewater Operator C License or Wastewater Collections I or Distribution D

Preferred

• CDL

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
