About the OpportunityThe City of Ventura is now accepting applications for the position of
Graphics Supervisor (Promotional Only).
The Graphics Supervisor plans, organizes, and oversees the City's graphics section, supervising graphics staff while providing overall creative design services that support departments across the organization. This position combines hands-on graphic design expertise with day-to-day leadership, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality visual communications that enhance City programs, services, and public outreach.
Key Responsibilities Include:- Supervising the City's graphics section, ensuring projects are completed efficiently, meet established design standards, and support the communication needs of City departments.
- Plan, prioritize, and manage multiple graphic design projects, collaborating with City staff to identify project goals, establish timelines, and deliver high-quality visual communications.
- Research, develop, and produce creative print and digital materials, including publications, presentations, marketing materials, illustrations, signage, and other visual content that supports City programs and services.
- Oversee the production process from concept through final delivery, including preparing files for print and digital distribution, coordinating production schedules, and maintaining graphic assets and archives.
- Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate assigned staff by assigning work, monitoring progress, providing coaching and performance feedback, and assisting with personnel actions, staffing needs, and workflow processes.
- Develop, implement, and maintain procedures, standards, and best practices to improve the efficiency, consistency, and quality of the City's graphics program.
- Administer the graphics program budget by assisting with budget development, monitoring expenditures, forecasting resource needs, and recommending purchases of equipment, software, and materials.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for specialized design, printing, production, equipment maintenance, and other graphics-related services, ensuring quality work and timely project completion.
- Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in graphic design, visual communications, branding, digital communications, social media, and related fields, incorporating innovative solutions into City projects.

- Be an experienced graphic design professional with the ability to create compelling print and digital communications that support a wide range of audiences and initiatives.
- Have experience leading and developing others by fostering a positive team environment, providing coaching and feedback, and effectively managing competing priorities.
- Be able to balance creativity with organization by managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and maintaining high standards for quality and accuracy.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with staff, departments, vendors, and stakeholders to understand project needs and deliver exceptional customer service.
- Embrace innovation and continuous improvement
Minimum Qualifications - RequiredA combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in graphics design, art, or related field and two years of experience as a graphics designer or Graphics Specialist II with the City of Ventura. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat Pro is required. Lead or supervisory experience is highly desirable .
License: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Class C driver's license may be required.
