About the Opportunity

The City of Ventura Parks & Recreation Department is hiring a Recreation Coordinator to join our team dedicated to enriching the quality of life through recreation, parks, and community partnerships. This position plans, coordinates, and oversees a variety of recreation, cultural, wellness, and community programs while supporting special events, community outreach, and partnerships.

The current vacancy is assigned to the Barranca Vista Center (BVC) , which serves children, youth, adults, seniors, and families through a range of recreational programs, classes, and activities. The Barranca Vista Center is the City's "Imagination Center," offering a welcoming space for creativity, learning, and community connection for all ages. The center features a large activity room and art studio and provides year-round classes in art, music, dance, fitness, and more!

The Ideal Candidate - Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate is an organized, customer-focused professional who enjoys building relationships and creating meaningful recreational opportunities for the community. They are skilled at coordinating multiple projects, communicating with diverse audiences, and leading staff and volunteers. Experience planning community programs, managing events, developing partnerships, and providing outstanding public service will contribute to success in this position.

Minimum Qualifications - Required

A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to completion of some college course work in a field related to public administration, recreation, cultural arts, or social services, and two years of progressively responsible experience implementing services in the social services, senior services, cultural arts, or recreation field; OR in lieu of college coursework, a total of three years of experience as described above.

Depending upon assignment, the ability to speak Spanish, in addition to English, is desirable .

License: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Class C driver's license may be required.
