Gulf Beach Head Lifeguard
Description
Overview The Gulf Beach Head Lifeguard assists with planning, coordinating, organizing, scheduling and direction of lifeguard operations. This position will coordinate daily activities, managing permanent and seasonal personnel; securing needed supplies and equipment while ensuring staff are properly trained and prepared. Gulf Beach Head Lifeguard will assist in education concerning safety and welfare of the public, ensures all full-time, part-time and seasonal beach rescue staff are trained and physically ready to respond to emergencies. The major objective of this position is to supervise and lead the Beach Rescue team in their departmental goals and daily operations.
Responsibilities • Coordinates staff readiness including completion of assigned duties, maintenance of required equipment, observing lifeguards on shift and assess all areas of work environment
• Assists Beach Rescue Superintendent with any changes needed in the divisions policies and procedures that are proficient and congruent with public safety and keeping expectations of the City of Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department
• Secures medical supplies and equipment and inventory
• Acts as a first responder in emergency situations that occur on land or in water to include: extended search and rescue and medical aid
• Coordinates and communicates with all emergency response personnel local and/or non-local including administering emergency medical care, first aid/CPR as required
• Operates a City vehicle and is responsible for maintenance of emergency equipment, including assigned beach rescue vehicles
• Keeps track of all minor maintenance of assigned vehicles including: ensuring vehicles are washed after daily shifts, upkeep or interior and adding fluids
• Assists Beach Rescue Trainer with instructions of Open Water and Medical Aid Certifications and ensure all lifeguard candidates successfully complete both certification per USLA requirements
• Helps with enforcement of beach ordinances to maintain public safety, interact with public and media (approval of City Communications Dept) to provide warnings or dangerous conditions to provide safety precaution information as to weather and beach conditions
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non -Exempt - Full-Time
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED
• Four (4) years of experience
Certifications, Licenses or other requirements Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
• Emergency Medical Technician Certification - Required at time of hire
• Demonstrate the ability to swim 500 meters (550 yards) over a measured course in ten minutes or less
• Demonstrate the ability to successfully perform an open water rescue
• Must be 18 years of age
• Demonstrate the ability of strength and stamina to perform rigorous duties of an open water lifeguard

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
