Currently there are three full -time Associate Civil Engineer positions . There are two vacancies for the Development Services Division and one vacancy for the Traffic Transportation Division . Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Development Services Division: Perform a variety of professional civil engineering duties in support of the City’s Development Services Division. Responsibilities include reviewing improvement plans, grading plans, subdivision maps, legal descriptions, WQMP’s, drainage and utility plans, engineering studies, permits, and other technical documents; preparing engineering conditions of approval and plan check comments; reviewing and issuing encroachment permits, street closure permits, harbor permits, and other Public Works permits; and coordinating with developers, consultants, utility companies, contractors, City staff, and the public. Assist with the planning, permitting, construction, and review of public and private infrastructure improvements while ensuring compliance with the City’s Municipal Code, Public Works Design Criteria, Standard Drawings, Standard Specifications, and other applicable City policies and engineering standards.

Traffic and Transportation Division: This position will work in Traffic and Transportation Division and primarily scope and review traffic impact and parking study reports for development projects. Other work assignments will include providing platinum customer service to residents and guests regarding their neighborhood service requests, traffic signal management support, permitting, and other duties as assigned.

Retirement:
The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement Systems (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8% or half the normal cost, whichever is higher, towards the retirement benefit.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience : T wo years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience.

Education : Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.

License/Certificate : Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

A valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) from the State of California is required.
