Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Procurement Assistant III vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%. Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Procurement Assistant III. Essential Job FunctionsDirects, through subordinate supervisors, a large staff engaged in the routine and emergency procurement of supplies, equipment and services for a very large County department, and in the preparation of related documents, records, controls, and reports.
Ensures compliance with established County and departmental purchasing policies and procedures through subordinate supervisors.
Coordinates a heavy volume of procurement activities and resolves major problems involving the central purchasing agency, the departmental accounting organization, the County Auditor, and vendors.
Coordinates departmental product testing and comparison projects, ensuring the conduct of tests and evaluations in accordance with approved safety practices.
Supervises the preparation of reports of findings.
Works in close liaison with operating units to determine future or special project needs.
Plans work of the procurement section so that intermediate and long range needs of the operating units will be met.
Prepares reports of section activities.
Participates in the selection and training of subordinates.
Supervise warehousing and property custodial functions, as needed.

Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: One year of procurement experience at the level of Procurement Assistant II supervising staff performing a full range of purchasing functions including the preparation of purchase orders, specification writing, product testing, and related functions.

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS: Physical Class II - Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
