What You'll Do:
- Interprets plans, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance with KC Water standards and permitting requirements.
- Greets, assists, and directs customers, contractors, developers, and City staff to appropriate resources and departments.
- Issues permits for water and sewer service connections, backflow preventers, repairs, and related utility work.
- Reviews permit applications and supporting documentation for completeness and compliance.
- Responds to customer inquiries and information requests regarding KC Water services, policies, and procedures.
- Investigates and resolves routine customer complaints in accordance with adopted standards, rules, and regulations.
- Provides customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Applies City ordinances, building codes, industry standards, and KC Water policies when evaluating permit requests.
- Explains technical requirements, codes, standards, and permitting procedures to customers and stakeholders.
- Coordinates with utilities, City departments, contractors, and regulatory agencies to resolve permitting and procedural issues.
- Researches and addresses questions related to water and sewer connection requirements and permitting processes.
- Exercises independent judgment in reviewing applications and making permitting decisions within established guidelines.
- Maintains accurate permit records and documentation.
- Ensures compliance with KC Water directives, rules, regulations, and operational standards.
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRES: - High school graduation.
- Must possess a valid state-issued drivers license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.
- Preference for candidates with Computer software like
- Microsoft Office Suites, Adobe Acrobat, Energov/CompassKC, KWIC, Hansen, GIS, etc.
- Principles, techniques, practices, and equipment used for utility services and connections.
- The City's Code of Ordinances, governing administrative codes, rules and regulations.
- KC Water rules and regulations for water and sewer service lines. Specifications for water utility related construction projects.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
