Responsibilities

What you'll do

• Ensure the accurate, timely, and complete processing of disease reports received from mandated reporting sources by verifying patient demographic and locating information, determining appropriate jurisdictional assignment, and routing priority disease reports to appropriate personnel.
• Provide direct supervision, guidance, and oversight to Public Health Specialist I staff by assigning work, monitoring performance, reviewing completed work for accuracy and compliance, providing training and technical assistance, and ensuring adherence to surveillance protocols and quality assurance standards.
• Review surveillance records to verify that treatment information and critical epidemiologic data are documented whenever available and ensure data quality and completeness.
• Review, enter, maintain, and ensure the integrity of disease surveillance data within applicable electronic disease surveillance systems by conducting quality assurance reviews, correcting discrepancies, generating reports, and creating field records for investigation and follow-up activities.
• Process priority syphilis reports and conduct provider follow-up activities to obtain clinical, laboratory, treatment, risk, and contact information necessary to support disease investigation, surveillance, and public health intervention efforts.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, laboratories, internal program staff, and external public health agencies to ensure complete and accurate disease reporting and facilitate timely public health response activities.

Qualifications

REQUIRES

• An accredited Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in private, public, or community healthcare, community sanitation, health inspections, health education, data analysis, or related healthcare fields; OR high school diploma and 6 years of experience in private, public, or community healthcare, community sanitation, health inspections, health education, data analysis, or related healthcare fields.
• Must pass a preemployment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
