Purpose:

Under the direction of Crew Lead or Supervisor, this position performs highly skilled street, bridge, and right-of-way maintenance, construction, and rehabilitation for Austin Transportation and Public Works, incorporating standard maintenance, construction, and repair techniques to produce a finished product to required standards. This position is required to proficiently operate light and heavy motorized equipment as assigned by the division for street, bridge, and sidewalk maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.


Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience in maintenance or construction, including two (2) years of experience which were in operation of heavy-duty equipment or concrete finishing. Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

Valid Class "A" Commercial Driver License (CDL).

Physical Requirements:

Continuous outdoor activity; frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing; exposure to extreme heat, cold, inclement weather, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor/dust hazards, electrical hazards; occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying or lifting up to a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, and indoor activity.

Notes to Candidate:

This position works with Austin Transportation and Public Works in the Pavement and Infrastructure Division. This position is assigned to the Sealcoat work group and will assist to complete the sealcoat process to extend the life City of Austin streets. This position will perform general street, bridge and right-of-way maintenance, construction, and rehabilitation for a large public works department, incorporating standard maintenance, construction, and repair techniques to produce a finished product that meets required standards. The Street & Bridge Ops Technician III will be required to operate light and heavy motorized equipment for street, bridge, and sidewalk maintenance.

This position is considered “essential” to maintain critical operations and core services, including public health, safety and utility services, in the event of an emergency. This means employees in this position will be required to report to work even in the event of bad weather, natural disaster, or other unforeseen circumstances that necessitate an emergency closure of City operations.

Pay Rate: $25.22 - $29.70 per hour.

Location: 4411 Meinardus Dr, Austin, TX 78744

Hours: Monday - Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Hours may vary depending on work demands and business needs, and overtime will be required as needed.
