IntroductionThe Division of Fish & Wildlife conserves and manages Delaware's fish and wildlife and their habitats, and provides fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing, and boating access on nearly 65,000 acres of public land.Summary StatementThis position within the Wildlife/Fisheries Construction Team will perform major construction and maintenance projects on state wildlife areas, state fisheries ponds, and public boat ramps located throughout the state. The employee operates heavy and specialized construction equipment—including dump trucks, tractor trailers, bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, air boats, and weed/algae harvesters—in the safest and most cost‑effective manner, and builds, repairs, and maintains dikes.Career LadderUpon satisfactory completion of department promotional standards and job requirements, employees may be eligible to be promoted to the next level.Essential FunctionsPerform a variety of natural resources conservation and preservation duties such as propagating, seeding, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting, and caring for trees, flowers, shrubs, lawns, crops, and turf/grounds management.Apply integrated pest management, herbicide/fertilizer application, layout and design, macroalgae harvesting, channel marking, debris management, and assessment of soil composition and environmental conditions.Ensure the safe use of state‑owned and/or maintained grounds and facilities by the public, and resolve safety concerns or other issues.Apply conservation and preservation principles, related laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.Complete maintenance and repairs in various labor/trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, construction, and grounds maintenance.Operate marine, land‑based, and construction equipment and vehicles.Provide information to the public and respond to inquiries regarding conservation and preservation efforts; assist in responding to storms or other agency‑specific situations.Participate in special projects and initiatives.Complete standard forms/applications and maintain records, logs, and reports.Maintain applicable tools, equipment, and supplies.Perform other related duties as required.Job RequirementsApplicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:Two years of experience operating and maintaining equipment such as farming equipment, construction equipment, trucks, boats, or small motor equipment.Two years of experience in maintenance trades such as groundskeeping, mechanical, building, or general carpentry.Six months of experience in land management activities such as land stewardship, farming practices, invasive species identification and control, herbicide applications, or prescribed burning.Six months of experience in record keeping.Knowledge of prioritizing, assigning and reviewing the work of others.Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled).Conditions of HireDNREC does not provide sponsorship for holders of H‑1 B visas.
