Summary
JOB SUMMARYThis part-time position performs police work to secure and maintain a safe environment for employees and the general public within the Pooler City Hall Complex and Municipal Court Building. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Police Administrative Services Division Supervisor. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other city employees, and the general public.
MAJOR DUTIES
- The work consists of related duties in the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws.
- Prevents the loss or damage of city property, including following established routines in guarding assigned properties.
- Makes rounds of assigned areas and operates the walk-through metal detector during normal City Hall hours, during Pooler Municipal Court proceedings, and during Pooler City Council Meetings.
- Reports any unusual conditions or occurrences.
- Provides aid to the public, including answering questions and providing directions when necessary.
- Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles.
- Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
- Provides a friendly, professional greeting to all visitors.
- Ensures visitors have appointments.
- Utilizes issued Personal Protective Equipment and cleans general work area.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the operation of job-related tools and equipment. Ability to interact positively with administration, co-workers, and the general public.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Police Admin Services Division Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The Police Admin Services Division Supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
Potentially dangerous and life-threatening situations contribute to the complexity of the position.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include equipment operation and maintenance principles and department and city policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
CONTACTS
Contacts are typically with other city employees and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to provide services or to resolve problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while standing, intermittently sitting at table, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
- The work is performed in the entry way where the employee may be exposed to inclement weather, noise, dust, and dirt. Some work may require the use of personal protective equipment such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one or two years.
- Must have a Georgia P.O.S.T. certification.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education or GED.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia.
- Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
- Must be able to pass a security background check.
