JOB SUMMARYJoin a team that helps keep one of Alaska's busiest transportation hubs safe and secure. As a Security Officer, you'll play a vital role in protecting people, property, and critical infrastructure at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while gaining valuable security experience in a dynamic airport environment.
This position is located in Anchorage, AK and works a rotational schedule of 1 week on / 1 week off, working 12 hours a day. A base pay period (2-weeks) earns 40 regular hours, combined with 44 hours of additional overtime pay.
Housing in Anchorage is not provided. Officers go to their own place of residence at the end of the shift.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- One (1) year of work experience with a municipal, state, or federal law enforcement agency, military police unit, corrections activity, or private security company within the past five years
- Able to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge upon hire
- State of Alaska Unarmed Security Guard License or able to obtain
- Must have reliable transportation to/from the work site. Driver's license strongly preferred.
- Able to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English
- Strong communication and customer service/public relations skills
- As a condition of employment, must be able to successfully complete a criminal background investigation, drug screen, and a post-offer physical/fitness for duty evaluation.
- Maturity of judgement and behavior
- Ability to present a professional image with a strong commitment to honesty, integrity and ethics.
- Ability to communicate respectfully with all visitors, coworkers, vendors, supervisors, managers, customers and client representatives.
- Ability to provide clear directions and respond accordingly.
- Must have basic phone and computer skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to work well alone and within a team.
- Reliable access to a smartphone capable of running apps for scheduling, timekeeping (clocking in/out), shift communications, and time-off requests.
- Must be able to pass the Company's pre-employment screening process, including drug screen, criminal background investigation and post-offer physical/functional capacity evaluation.
- Provide customer service to the client by carrying out safety and security procedures, site-specific policies and, when appropriate, emergency response activities.
- Understand and successfully execute post orders including enforcement of client and company policies, rules and regulations.
- Guard property against damage, fire, theft, and illegal or unauthorized entry.
- Visually, electronically and audibly monitor a variety of assigned areas or grounds including but not limited to: roving inside the facilities, manning stationary checkpoints, monitoring traffic and parking areas, examining personnel credentials to ensure that access is authorized, and other.
- May issue and record ID badges.
- May be assigned to serve as an Airport Worker Screener based on experience level, previous training and required competencies for this role. Duties include:
- Transporting, setting-up, using, and tearing-down mobile screening equipment.
- Conduct screening of selected personnel in a calm, respectful, and professional manner
- Screening will include an electronic search of the person and all belongings and a physical or visual search or removed exterior clothing and personal effects. Physical contact between the screener and the person being screened is not directed or intended.
- Responsible for wearing the appropriate personal protective gear and for cleaning, storing and appropriate use of airport supplied equipment and materials.
- Report and record data such as property damage or unusual occurrences in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Interview witnesses to investigate disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalism and other incidents.
- Write Daily Activity Reports and/or Incident Reports.
- Assist in properly responding to a variety of emergencies or disasters in order to preserve life and property, including but not limited to fire safety and active shooter protocol.
- Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, deescalating, and problem-solving manner.
- May assist management and law enforcement officials in emergency situations.
- Display courteous, respectful and professional interactions with the public and customers.
- Must be able to stay alert at all times to ensure the safety of protected assets.
- Must comply with established dress code/uniform requirements.
- Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
- Complete all job required training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
- Ability to work a varying schedule including nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours.
