Overview The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is seeking retirees of the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) or Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) to serve as reemployed annuitants in support of its mission to enforce drug laws and protect public health and safety.PositionTitle: Criminal Investigator (Reemployed Annuitants)Open Date: July 14, 2026Close Date: July 24, 2026DutiesConduct complex criminal investigations targeting narcotics and drug‑related activities.Identify and apprehend drug traffickers and arrest individuals engaged in criminal drug activities.Utilize intelligence, investigative techniques, and legal authorities to conduct investigations.Prepare written documentation to support investigations.Collaborate with teams of special agents and other law enforcement officers, providing guidance and coordination.Preferred ExperienceExtraterritorial investigationsInternational extraditionsNarcoterrorism investigationsCryptocurrency investigations and blockchain analysisDual Compensation Off-Set WaiverReemployed annuitants accepted under a dual compensation waiver are eligible for full annuity and full federal salary, annual and sick leave (if applicable), full‑time schedules, overtime, Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) of 25% of base salary, and a non‑status term appointment in the competitive service.RequirementsU.S. citizenshipAbility to obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret security clearanceSigned mobility agreement allowing relocationCompletion of pre‑employment medical clearance and periodic medical examinationsFull‑scope pre‑employment polygraph admissionRegistrant status for males born after 12/31/59 (Selective Service)Valid state driver's licenseSubject to random drug testingCompletion of Basic Agent Training (e.g., FLETC CITP or equivalent)QualificationsOne year of specialized experience (GS‑12 level) performing complex criminal investigations, including international and extraterritorial cases, strategic planning of operations, information exchange, courtroom testimony, and team leadership.Time‑in‑grade and time‑after‑competitive appointment requirements met by closing date.CTAP/ICTAP eligibility and rating of 85 or better, if applicable.Additional InformationAll applicants must disclose prior drug activity.
