The County is known for its beautiful scenery, amazing mountain ranges, endless outdoor activities, and the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, Flathead Lake.As a Deputy Sheriff, you will respond to emergency calls for service, enforce the law, and conduct other duties of the Sheriff's Office. Accuracy in report writing, effectively dealing with the public, handling stressful situations calmly and effectively are tasks that are performed daily by Deputies. The chosen candidate will be trustworthy and capable of handling sensitive, confidential information in accordance with Montana Law.Peace Officer Requirements Be a citizen of the United StatesBe at least 18 years of ageBe fingerprinted and searched of the local, state and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal recordNot have been convicted of a crime for which the person could have been imprisoned in a federal or state penitentiaryBe of good moral character, as determined through a background investigationBe a high school graduate or have passed the general education development (GED) test and have been issued an equivalency certificate by the superintendent of public instruction or by an appropriate issuing agency of another state or the federal governmentBe examined by a licensed physician, who is not the applicant's personal physician, appointed by the employing authority to determine if the applicant is free from any mental or physical condition that might adversely affect performance by the applicant of the duties of a police officerSuccessfully complete an oral examination conducted by the appointed authority or its designated representative to demonstrate the possession of communication skills, temperament, motivation, and other characteristics necessary to the accomplishment of the duties and functions of a peace officerPossess or be eligible for a valid Montana driver's licenseLake County offers great benefits for employees including health insurance, state retirement system, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, among many others.This position will remain open until filled. Applications will be reviewed on a weekly basis.HOURS/DAYS: The position requires adjusting to changing shifts; evenings, weekends, holidays and hours not included in the normal schedule may be required.
