About the Municipal Court Department The 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri - Kansas City Municipal Division, commonly known as the Municipal Court, serves as the judicial branch of the City of Kansas City. What you'll do
- Provide advanced courtroom security by maintaining order during court sessions, conducting security sweeps, monitoring gallery behavior, and responding to disruptions or emergencies to protect staff and visitors.
- Serve as the security liaison for specialty courts, including Wellness Court, Women's Court, Veterans Court, and Domestic Violence Court, ensuring safe processing of participants involved in court-ordered programs.
- Operate motor vehicles to maintain the secure chain of custody and transport inmates to and from hearings, assessments, treatment providers, and related facilities.
- Exercise custody and control over defendants and prisoners, conduct searches for contraband or weapons, apply restraints when necessary, and maintain continuous supervision.
- Act as a lead worker by assigning courtroom posts, directing personnel, overseeing shift transitions, and monitoring compliance with policies during the absence of the Bailiff Supervisor.
- Execute warrants, serve summonses, subpoenas, writs, and other legal instruments, make lawful arrests when required, and prepare detailed incident reports related to courthouse activities.
Qualifications
REQUIRES - High school graduation and possession of certificate of completion of a recognized police academy at the state, county or municipal level and 3 years' experience as a fully commissioned police officer; OR an accredited Associate's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related area and 1 year of responsible security and/or law enforcement experience; OR high school graduation and 5 years of responsible security and/or law enforcement experience.
- Must be eligible to obtain a special police commission as issued by the KCMO Police Department.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
