THE POSITIONThe Department of Human Services is seeking a County Caseworker 1 who wants to help children and families thrive. At Mifflin County Child Welfare, you will take part in work that protects children and guides families through important challenges. DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis position supports children and families through investigations, assessments and coordinated services. It helps strengthen the family unit, prevent placement when possible, and support permanency when reunification is not an option. As a County Caseworker 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Initial Actions: Implement action plans on new intake calls and conduct follow up on existing cases
- Case Investigations: Complete CPS investigations and review case details to support child safety
- Family Support: Coordinate services that help stabilize families and prevent out of home placement
- Progress Monitoring: Track family progress toward goals and adjust supports as needed
- Permanency Planning: Assist children in placement by supporting adoption or other permanent outcomes when reunification is not possible
- Full-time employment; 72.50 hours bi-weekly.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 45-minute lunch.
- Caseworkers will share on-call duties.
- Travel and Overtime as needed.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
- A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- This particular position also requires you to possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
