ABOUT THE JOB:Deschutes County’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plans, coordinates, and directs the operations of the County Finance Department; This member of our leadership team assures the County’s financial health, maintains fiscal stability, invests County resources, safeguards the County's assets; directs finance, accounting, tax collection, and payroll functions and staff and serves as Chief Tax Collector for Deschutes County. HERE. This position is located in Deschutes County and may be eligible for a hybrid of in-office/remote work as allowed by policy and approved by the County Administrator.
Key Responsibilities: - Directing Finance Department operations, planning, and positive leadership and management of staff.
- Leading preparation and management of County budgets and the development of revenue and expenditure forecasts aligned with long-range financial plans.
- Providing leadership, direction, and guidance to assure the County’s continued financial health.
What You Will Bring: Knowledge of or experience with:
- Principles and practices of public sector administrative management, including performance management, personnel rules, cost accounting, budgeting, contract management, and employee supervision.
- Modern fiscal management and control principles and treasury management practices.
- Government/Financial Accounting Standards Boards (GASB/FASB), and Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) standards, practices, policies, rules, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Skill in:
- Analyzing County needs, prioritizing, and promoting financial strategies to meet future needs.
- Monitoring and interpreting financial documents, and assuring compliance with all regulatory requirements governing public sector financial activities.
- Directing staff, delegating tasks and authority, and coaching to improve staff performance.

This position is open until filled. A first review of applications will be September 30, 2026.Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business;
- AND six (6) years of public sector financial operations management experience;
- OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the essential functions of the job.
Necessary Special RequirementsPossession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.
