Salary: $13,894 (Step 1) to $16,122 (Step 4) / monthly

Current AssignmentThe San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) Police Department is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking professional to serve as its Manager of Accreditation. This position provides a unique opportunity to play a key leadership role in advancing the Department’s commitment to professional excellence, accountability, continuous improvement, and nationally recognized law enforcement standards.
Reporting to a Deputy Police Chief or designee, this position leads the Department’s accreditation program and serves as the subject matter expert and key advisor on Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) standards, compliance, and organizational readiness. The Manager works collaboratively with executive leadership, managers, supervisors, and sworn and civilian personnel to ensure departmental policies, practices, and operations align with accreditation standards. The successful candidate will oversee accreditation activities, strengthen policies and compliance practices, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and provide accreditation guidance and training throughout the Department.
The most qualified candidates for this position will have highly developed competencies in the following areas, which will be reinforced with related work experience and will be clearly articulated during the selection process:- Accreditation Expertise and Regulatory Compliance - Knowledge of law enforcement accreditation processes and the ability to interpret and apply CALEA standards to maintain compliance.
- Strategic and Analytical Thinking - Ability to identify complex operational and compliance issues, evaluate solutions, and provide sound recommendations.
- Program and Project Management - Ability to manage complex, deadline-driven projects involving multiple priorities, stakeholders, and deliverables.

- Communication and Influence - Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex information.

Examples of DutiesManages and oversees the operations and activities of the District’s Police Department accreditation program.Serve as an expert in the area of CALEA Accreditation reviews and responds to a wide variety of complex and technical issues related to departmental practices; ensures compliance with CALEA standards and the accreditation process; interprets CALEA standards and assesses the standards applicable to agency directives.Coordinates a wide variety of complex and technical issues concerning department practices and how they relate and comply with CALEA standards and the accreditation process. Manages, reviews and evaluates the work performed by lower level staff and administers and documents disciplinary actions as required; approves leave requests and adjusts schedules to ensure adequate coverage. Provides administrative and technical assistance to police managers and other departments within and outside the District. Serves as liaison for the Police Department with other divisions, departments and outside agencies; responds to inquiries from other agencies and the public regarding work activities and procedures. Stays abreast of current law enforcement trends and the accreditation process, including proposed changes or amendments to the standards, transition policies or process changes. Evaluate the impact of these changes in the agency. Consults on the department’s policy and procedure manual updates and confirm compliance with CALEA standards. Provides accreditation training to agency personnel and on a regular basis reports on the progress of the Department’s accreditation efforts. Assist in developing BART Police Department’s relationship with the community. Use office and proprietary software for research, data management, word Processing, reports and communication. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Public Administration or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience: The equivalent of five (5) years of full-time verifiable professional experience in Law Enforcement which must include two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Other Requirements: Able to work evenings and weekends as assigned.
Substitution: Additional professional experience as outlined above may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis. A college degree is preferred.
