This job is located in Metairie, LA

This is an investigative and enforcement position. The incumbent is responsible for interpreting, investigating, and enforcing Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) rules and regulations and applicable State and Federal laws governing public utilities (gas, water, electric, sewage, telecommunications) and the motor carrier transportation industry. Incumbent is responsible for the LPSC District 1 territory encompassing 12 parishes: Ascension, Jefferson, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemine, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington. The incumbent travels the multi-parish area, meeting with consumers, parish officials, and utility personnel located in towns and cities within the District. The incumbent is required to know all functions of the LA Public Service Commission.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in the application and/or enforcement of State rules regulating motor carriers or public utilities or in law enforcement; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Works independently, maintaining extensive knowledge of the industries regulated by the LPSC (gas, water, electric, sewage, telecommunications) and the LPSC rules and regulations that apply to these industries

  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with officials of utility companies, related to federal and state agencies, and the general public

  • Investigates complex customer utility complaints filed within the District. Obtains and interprets all information necessary to mediate and resolve disputes

  • Investigates complaints of illegal activity which may require field inspections of utility facilities

  • Maintains working knowledge of policies and guidelines set forth by the LPSC Transportation Division regarding motor carriers

  • Maintains a Daily Vehicle Log of travel in assigned state vehicle

Appointment Type: Probational and Promotional

Career Progression: This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG). This position provides the opportunity to advance within the job series as a PSC Enforcement Agent 1, 2, or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).

Work Schedule:Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday-Friday.
