Summary
Under the general direction of the Director of Security, the security officer is responsible for monitoring all areas of EMC hospital, Clinics and Nursing Home in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees. Monitors parking facilities and pedestrian and vehicle traffic in accordance with department and EMC policy. The security officer is an employee of Emanuel Medical Center and is expected to follow the policies and procedures of the facility. The Security Office answers to the Director of Security.
Minimal Qualifications:
Education: A high school diploma or GED
License: None required
Experience: Prior security and training experience is desired
Physical Demands
- Must be able to work standing for long periods of time.
- Must be able to utilize a computer keyboard.
- Must be able to read correspondence related to position.
- Must be able to lift (75) pounds.
- Must be able to carry on conversations on the telephone, and in person, with patients, families and visitors.
- Has a moderate exposure to bloodborne pathogens
- Discuss EMC policy and procedures with a wide variety of persons.
- Deal with hostile attitudes and persons uneducated in the procedures of health care.
- Deal with persons who have lost loved ones. These situations may place the security officer in a stressful situation.
- Balance a sense of compassion with the security needs of EMC.
- Emanuel Medical Center offers a program to assist the employee in dealing with these stresses with the help of trained personnel. Use of these resources is encouraged.
