HII-Mission Technologies is seeking a COMSEC Specialist who is responsible for the management, safeguarding, distribution, and accountability of all Communications Security (COMSEC) materials and equipment in accordance with NSA COMSEC policy and applicable national-level directives. This role ensures the secure operation of cryptographic devices across mission networks, supports audits and inspections, and provides training to personnel to maintain compliance and operational readiness.
- Manage, safeguard, and account for all COMSEC materials, cryptographic equipment, and keying material in accordance with NSA, DoD, and organizational policy.
- Distribute keying material using approved secure courier procedures and the Electronic Key Management System (EKMS).
- Configure and maintain secure communication devices including KG-250X inline network encryptors, KIV-7 devices, TACLANE encryptors, and associated key fill equipment.
- Conduct quarterly COMSEC audits of equipment inventories, keying material accountability records, and physical security controls at MacDill AFB and forward-deployed locations.
- Investigate COMSEC incidents such as lost fills, equipment compromise, or key discrepancies; report findings to NSA Central Security Service in accordance with CNSSI 4009.
- Maintain detailed records in EKMS and local databases to support compliance inspections, accreditation, and continuous monitoring requirements.
- Provide training to personnel on COMSEC handling procedures, secure device operation, proper use of key fill devices, and incident reporting protocols.
- Collaborate with RMF teams to ensure cryptographic and COMSEC controls meet NIST SP 800-53 requirements for the protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and classified data.
- Additional duties as assigned or required.
Level 2: 3 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 1 year relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience. Level 3: 6 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 4 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant experience. Level 4: 10 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 8 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 years relevant experience.
- Experience in COMSEC operations, EKMS/Key Management Infrastructure (KMI), and cryptographic equipment maintenance.
- Working knowledge of NSA COMSEC policies, DoDI 8523.01, CNSSI 4009, and applicable DoD/Service-level instructions.
- Hands-on experience configuring and operating devices such as KG-250X, TACLANE, and KIV-7.
- Strong understanding of keying material handling, secure distribution, and incident management procedures.
- Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes and NIST SP 800-53 security control requirements.
- Ability to perform audits, maintain accurate accountability records, and ensure compliance during inspections.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide effective user training.
- Ability to support operations at main base and travel to forward deployed or remote locations as required.
- Clearance: Must possess and maintain a Top Secret clearance
