Correctional Officer I - Temporary (Southern State Correctional Facility)Corrections professionals in Vermont work in a system that believes in the basics of human change. Intensive training prepares entry‑level Correctional Officers for a career that blends security work, human services and leadership opportunities. Many of our permanent positions are filled by promoting temporary employees, so external candidates are encouraged to apply to both temporary and permanent openings.TrainingThe start of your career begins with a week observing duties at a correctional facility, followed by six weeks of instruction at the Vermont Correctional Academy, and then eighty hours of onsite training supervised by staff at your new facility.Schedule & BenefitsShifts: 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 6 a.m. Start date based on availability. The Department must adhere to OSHA standards related to use of such devices, including CFR 1910.134(e) for medical evaluation of fitness to wear a respirator.Other RequirementsOngoing background investigation and checks per AHS Policy 4.02.
