Summary
Commissioned Security Officer (220 Days)
Provide prevention and detection of criminal activity and safety hazards. Provide overall assistance to the school campus community. Assist in restraining, apprehending, and escorting disruptive or arrested individuals. Patrol all exterior and interior areas of the campus while ensuring direct interaction with students and district personnel within the assigned jurisdiction. Resolve conflict or confrontation between students, district personnel, visitors, or other persons on the assigned campus. Report all incidents or criminal activity immediately to the supervisor. Adhere to the policies and procedures of the Board of Trustees, the district, and the Police and Security Department. Adhere to existing district and department grooming standards and dress policies at all times for uniformed personnel. Attend all scheduled meetings as required by the supervisor.
Required must be at least 21 years of age. Required High School Diploma or GED. Required Texas Department of Public Safety Level III Security License. Willing to undergo a criminal background check, psychological exam, medical exam, and drug screening. Ability to perform responsibilities with minimum supervision. Demonstrate firearm proficiency by passing the Dallas ISD pistol qualification course. Composure to de-escalate conflict situations. Knowledge of relevant security equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective school security operations for the protection of people, data and property. Competency to deal sensitively and fairly with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Ability to effectively interface with students, parents, and all levels of District personnel in writing and verbally. Able to maintain the confidentiality of information. Training and ability to subdue offenders, including the use of firearms and handcuffs. Organizational, prioritization, communication, and interpersonal skills are required to achieve the goals of the position. Must be computer literate and willing to attend training sessions. Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a preferred.
