The Attorney General's Office, New Jersey Racing Commission, is looking for an Hourly State Investigator 2 to join its team in Cherry Hill, NJ. The hourly rate for these positions will be $39.90 to $58.46 per hour. Special Services positions are filled on a part-time, temporary basis during normal business hours. Candidates appointed to a Special Services title will be limited to 944 work hours in a fiscal year.ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:The Attorney General has broad oversight of the state's legal and law enforcement matters. As the head of the Department of Law & Public Safety, the Attorney General supervises a wide range of Divisions, Offices, and Commissions, consisting of over 2,800 sworn law enforcement officers, 600 attorneys, and thousands of other public servants.ABOUT THE DIVISION:The New Jersey Racing Commission (NJRC) regulates horse racing in New Jersey. NJRC is a nine-member, bipartisan body appointed by Governor, staffed by a team of career employees who oversee the permitting and licensing procedures of horse owners, trainers, drivers, and veterinarians.ABOUT THE POSITION:Under the limited supervision of the Executive Director, a State Investigator 4, or other supervisory official within the New Jersey Racing Commission is responsible for:Overseeing the processing of pari-mutuel wagering by the staff operating the totalisator at the hub facility;Observing all aspects of the processing of wagers at the hub facility to ensure that wagering is handled and ceased in accordance with the requirements of the NJRC's rules;Performing other related duties as required.This position may require non-traditional work hours on an as needed basis, including evenings and/or weekends, on short deadlines for certain assignments, with or without advance notice.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience as required on a year-for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience.Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.Three (3) years of experience conducting background or criminal type investigations including the review and analysis of financial and accounting records.A Master's degree or certification as a Certified Public Accountant may be substituted for one (1) year of the indicated experience."Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.OTHER KEY FACTORS:This position may require non-traditional work hours, on an as needed basis, including evenings and/or weekends on short deadlines for certain assignments, with or without advance notice.Preference for applicants who have experience with pari-mutuel wagering, analyzing transactions, database management, and proficient in spreadsheets.BENEFITS:Temporary employment services positions may be eligible to accrue earned sick leave for qualifying absences.For more information, please visit
