Job Description
OverviewThe Utility Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system. Employees must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.
Responsibilities
• Work with a crew to install, repair, and maintain water mains, valves, and fire hydrants
• Repair and maintain wastewater gravity and force mains, manholes, and services
• Perform wastewater system maintenance and cleaning
• Install meters at residential service connections
• Install, program, and maintain AMR components
• Perform water service turn-off and turn-on duties for residential, commercial, and industrial customers
• Operate hand tools, water pumps, and power saws
• Set up traffic control devices and maintain safe work zones
• Perform confined space work in accordance with safety procedures
• Demonstrate work site and trench safety practices
• Investigate and mitigate issues reported on water distribution and wastewater collection systems
• Provide customer service while performing assigned responsibilities
• Perform additional duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work week
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED
• No prior experience required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
