Job Description
OverviewThe Crew Lead is responsible for leading assigned crews in the operation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This position provides direction and training to assigned staff, ensures public and employee safety, and maintains compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The Crew Lead works with little to no direct supervision, including during after-hours operations, and regularly interacts with contractors, residents, engineers, inspectors, and other stakeholders. This position reports to a Foreman or higher-level supervisor who establishes work schedules, assigns projects, and communicates operational expectations
Responsibilities
• Ensure daily crew assignments are completed efficiently and effectively
• Perform, lead, and train crews in the installation, repair, maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including CCTV operations
• Operate backhoes and large excavation equipment and train employees on CDL requirements and proper equipment operation
• Ensure proper dosing and disinfection of water mains and proper use of repair materials
• Review, interpret, and train crew members on maps, plans, and technical drawings
• Create permits for street cuts and confined space entry and ensure compliance with traffic control plans, trench safety, and worksite safety practices
• Coordinate the installation and operation of well points and bypass pumps
• Use internal software to create work orders and document associated information
• Provide customer service to citizens and coordinate job site activities with engineers, construction inspectors, consultants, and customers
• Plan, lead, and perform the installation of large-volume commercial and residential meters
• Perform, train, and schedule crews to install, program, and maintain AMR components and conduct water service turn-offs and turn-ons
• Investigate and mitigate issues involving water distribution and wastewater collection systems
• Perform additional duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work week
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED
• Four (4) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.
• Class A CDL
• Any of the following TCEQ licenses:
o Class I Collections
o Class D Wastewater Operator
o Class D Water Distribution
o Class D Surface Water
o Class D Ground Water

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
