About Our Client

Our client is a well-established commercial construction firm with approximately 85-90 employees and a long-standing reputation for delivering construction services across federal government, institutional, and commercial markets. The company specializes in secure facilities, mission-critical environments, historic restoration, and high-profile construction programs. Due to continued growth and increasing project demand, they are seeking an experienced Estimator to help expand their backlog and support future opportunities. The Estimator will play a critical role in preconstruction efforts, partnering with operations and leadership teams to deliver competitive and accurate proposals.

Job Description
  • Lead estimating efforts for federal and commercial construction projects
  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for assigned scopes of work
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and bid requirements
  • Develop accurate project budgets, bid proposals, and pricing packages
  • Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals
  • Maintain and expand relationships with key subcontractors, vendors, and consultants
  • Participate in site visits and pre-bid meetings to gather project information
  • Ensure appropriate subcontractor coverage for all bid opportunities
  • Prepare and review bid general conditions prior to submission
  • Work closely with operations teams to develop a complete understanding of project scope
  • Analyze project risks and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Track bid results and maintain estimating metrics and reporting
  • Assist with pricing and negotiating change orders as needed
  • Support hard bid, IDIQ, task order, and design-build pursuits
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and databases

The Successful Applicant
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible construction estimating experience
  • Proven experience estimating commercial construction projects
  • Strong federal construction experience preferred
  • Thorough understanding of federal government procurement methods, including hard bid, IDIQ, and task order contracts
  • Working knowledge of the design-build delivery process
  • Familiarity with Washington, DC metro-area subcontractor markets
  • Ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analysis
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and bid instructions
  • Experience collaborating effectively with subcontractors during bid efforts
  • Excellent communication, organization, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with estimating and construction software platforms
  • Local residency within the DC, Maryland, or Virginia region required
