The Intake and Assessment Bureau ("IAB") manages and supervises attorneys and support staff assessing and analyzing charges at the arrest stage of a criminal prosecution. The level of the position will depend upon the experience of the person selected. The responsibilities for this position include:Supervising and managing IAB attorneys and support staffTraining IAB attorneys and support staff on standards and burdens of proof; and complaint draftingTraining IAB attorneys in best practices to enhance overall job performance including investigatory, trial advocacy and litigation skills and application of the highest ethical standardsSupporting the professional development of TPA/Paralegals by implementing training programs for new TPA/Paralegals and ongoing training for senior TPA/ParalegalsProviding direct and ongoing supervision to TPA/ParalegalsMonitoring individual performance and drafting performance evaluationsOverseeing short and long term projectsInterfacing and troubleshooting as necessary with other agencies and groups including NYPD, Corporation Counsel, medical care providers, defense providers and counterparts at other district attorneys' officesGenerating policy and statistical reports on bail applicationsMaintaining weekly schedule of IAB attorneys and support staffMaintaining timekeeping recordsPerforming other relevant duties as determined by management.This is an evening position, including some weekends and holidays.QualificationsInterested applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 7 years post-J.D. experience. Applicants should also have:Demonstrated experience assisting junior assistants and trial prep assistants in case analysis and enhancementDemonstrated experience in training, interacting and/or liaising with other law enforcement agenciesFelony jury trial experienceExtensive knowledge of the New York Penal and Criminal Procedure LawStrong knowledge of criminal justice reform, with a vision on how to expand the role of the Intake and Assessment BureauThorough working knowledge of the Intake and Arraignment processDemonstrated ability to work and respond in a high-volume fast-paced environmentExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsSuperior organizational skillsSalary: $190,000.Pursuant to Public Officers Law Section 3(1), United States citizenship is required of all Assistant District Attorneys upon commencement of their employment, as is New York State residency.
