POSITION INFORMATION

Placer County is currently accepting applications for Administrative Assistant.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill permanent or extra help* and open or promotional vacancies in various County departments as they arise.

*Temporary/Extra Help assignments are limited to working 28 hours per week with a cap of 999 hours or 960 hours for CalPERS retired annuitants in a fiscal year and are not eligible for benefits.

DEFINITION

To perform a variety of highly responsible and complex clerical, secretarial, and routine administrative duties for a department or division.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions at this level are distinguished from other clerical classes by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Employees provide administrative and responsible secretarial support to a department in areas such as budget, personnel, or a departmental program or function, and typically report to a division head. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from assigned management staff.

May exercise direct supervision over assigned clerical staff.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is typically performed in an indoor office environment with controlled temperature conditions. Position may require travel to and from locations in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Four (4) years of increasingly responsible secretarial and clerical experience involving frequent public contact.

Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Required License or Certificate:
May need to possess a valid driver's license as required by the position. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.

Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training, and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.

The eligible list resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification. For this purpose, a substantially similar classification is one at a lower level in the same classification (example: entry level vs. journey level) and/or a similar classification (similar work performed, similar training and experience qualifications required).
