We work to build a culture of innovation by championing new and inventive ways of serving internal and external customers, rewarding employee-led discovery and inventive actions, and encouraging thoughtful risk-taking. Our goal is to transform the way the government operates by supporting and leading business process and technology improvements.

About the Fellowship Program

The Jefferson County Innovation Fellowship is a 1-2-year program that equips aspiring innovators with the skills to transform government services through new technologies and solutions. It is a full-time role with limited medical benefits that can act as a launch pad for a career in civic innovation and technology.

In addition to the work you’ll do, you’ll get to know other fellows through a variety of projects, networking, and social events. Learn more at http://www.jeffco.us/innovation .

About the Position

In this position, one would support countywide efforts to conduct business impact analyses (BIA) in order to bolster technological resilience and begin county preparation for post-quantum cryptography (PQC) cybersecurity risks.

Reporting to the Information Security Manager and working closely with members of the Business Analysis, Systems, and Information Security teams, the fellow will help design, pilot, and scale a Business Impact Analysis methodology across Jefferson County departments. By conducting this BIA, the Fellow will help gather an inventory of legacy systems and potential technical debt relevant to long-term PQC readiness.

This role is a good fit for someone who has interest in technical cybersecurity as well as experience and demonstrable soft skills necessary for business communications. The Fellow will not be responsible for implementing cryptographic solutions or performing deep technical security engineering . Instead, they will focus on gathering data through interview about how the county uses technology, identifying dependencies and risks, and translating that into clear documentation and strategic recommendations.

Professional Development

The Jefferson County Innovation Fellowship program is designed to provide talented individuals with an opportunity to gain practical and diverse real-world experience in government innovation. Fellows will learn about the inner workings of county government and make a difference in the community through meaningful projects.
