Job Duties:
- Assist with the planning, development, implementation, and scheduling of direct services in Adult Correctional Services.
- Provides advocacy, monitoring and discharge planning for clients with a serious mental illness/substance abuse at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.
- Assist with discharge planning for court diverted individuals.
- Provide face to face contact with individuals in the jail as needed.
- Coordinate with jail staff and medical provider to ensure court diverted individuals receive their medication.
- Attend and assist with court as needed.
- Assist and accompany individuals to appointments on the day of release and when necessary for successful integration in the community.
- Assist with obtaining personal identification documents and benefits.
- Collaborate with Probation & Parole and Community Corrections to promote compliance with court orders/probation requirements.
- Monitor compliance and progress with court diversion plan.
- Maintain daily Cerner service logs.
- Meet with supervisor to report on progress of program and problem solve any problematic situations.
- Assist the program supervisor in all other administrative functions in support of the Adult Correctional Services Unit as needed.
- Provides informal progress reports to referral sources.
- Informs Supervisor about all difficult cases.
- Ensures all participant rights to confidentiality are safeguarded in accordance with current federal regulations, HIPPA, and Corporate Compliance.
Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).
Minimum/Special/Additional Requirements:
- BEHAVIORAL HEALTH POSITIONS: Requires a four (4) year degree in a human services field (such as psychology, behavioral or mental health, special education, social work) and three (3) years' experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as Mental Health Counselor, Special Education Teacher, or Social Worker OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience and training equivalent to seven (7) years in fields providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).
- Must have, or obtain, a current and valid driver's license.
