CDN Logistics is seeking a knowledgeable and resourceful Night & Weekend Dispatcher to serve as an extension of our daytime Driver Management team. This individual will provide critical off-shift operational coverage by supporting over-the-road drivers, monitoring active shipments, communicating with customers, coordinating roadside maintenance, and resolving problems that could affect service.
It takes a special person to succeed in this role. The right candidate will be forward-thinking, independent, highly knowledgeable, and personable. You must be able to anticipate problems, make sound decisions with limited supervision, and remain calm when drivers and customers need immediate answers. This is an opportunity for an experienced transportation professional who takes ownership, communicates confidently, and understands that overnight decisions can determine the success of the following business day.
Work Schedule This is specifically an off-shift position. Candidates must be prepared to work an assigned schedule that includes nights, weekends, and potentially holidays. Available or assigned schedules may include:
Monday through Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday, 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Friday through Monday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Schedules will be assigned based on operational needs. Flexibility to provide occasional coverage outside the regularly assigned schedule-including additional overnight or weekend hours-are required.
You are the face and voice of the shift and will support our drivers at all phases of their journey
- Serve as the primary point of contact for over-the-road drivers during assigned night and weekend hours.
- Respond promptly to calls involving load questions, fuel-card concerns, routing issues, road closures, severe weather, and other operational challenges.
- Provide drivers with clear, professional, and practical guidance while maintaining a calm and supportive presence.
- Coordinate after-hours maintenance and roadside assistance when equipment problems occur.
Monitor Shipments and Protect Service
- Maintain visibility of active pickups and deliveries through regular driver communication, real-time location technology, telematics, and transportation-management systems.
- Identify potential delays or service failures before they occur and take appropriate action to protect the shipment and customer commitment.
- Communicate accurate and timely status updates to internal and external customers, particularly when pickup or delivery schedules may be affected.
- Document overnight activity and prepare a complete, actionable turnover for the daytime Driver Managers.
- Respond to truck breakdowns, delayed loads, missed pickups, missed deliveries, and other time-sensitive service concerns.
- Coordinate load recovery or repowering when delays or equipment problems threaten service.
- Evaluate available information, determine priorities, and escalate serious or unresolved matters to the appropriate operational leader.
- Notify the Safety Department promptly of accidents, motorist complaints, or other safety-related events.
- Maintain composure and sound judgment during emergencies and high-pressure situations
Support Safety and Compliance
- Monitor driver activity for compliance with Department of Transportation requirements and Hours of Service regulations.
- Avoid directing or permitting activity that could place a driver, the public, the shipment, or CDN Logistics at risk.
- Recognize potential safety or compliance concerns and escalate them promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of driver communications, shipment updates, maintenance events, and significant off-shift decisions.
What We Are Looking For
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two or more years of transportation, logistics, dispatch, driver support, or related customer-service experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of truckload or over-the-road transportation operations strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and Hours of Service requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and solutions-focused during stressful or rapidly changing situations.
- Strong judgment and the ability to make timely decisions with limited supervision.
- Forward-thinking approach with the ability to anticipate service problems and initiate corrective action.
- Personable and confident communication style when working with drivers, customers, maintenance providers, and internal leaders.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to accurate documentation and shift turnover.
- Comfort working with transportation-management systems, real-time tracking and telematics platforms, maintenance software, email, and multiline telephone systems.
- Dependability and consistent attendance, particularly during nights, weekends, holidays, and periods of severe weather or increased operational demand.
