Summary
Job Summary:This position is responsible for the enforcement of federal, state and local laws and the protection of life and property. Position will report within the chain of command within the Police Department.
Major Duties:
- Patrol an assigned zone to detect and deter criminal activity and traffic violations; issues citations.
- Enforce state and federal law and city ordinances.
- Respond to emergency calls, including domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, thefts, traffic accidents, lost or missing persons searches, public service duties, stranded motorists etc.
- Maintain visibility within the community.
- Conduct preliminary investigations into traffic accidents, crimes and other incidents.
- Apprehends, arrests and processes offenders.
- Provide assistance and backup support to other officers and emergency service providers as necessary.
- Testifies in judicial proceedings as necessary.
- Completes all required reports, including accident and incident reports.
- Inspects and maintains assigned patrol car, uniforms and equipment.
- Prepares and serves criminal warrants.
- Participates in the community oriented policing program.
- Attends ongoing training, as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possesses a valid driver's license.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Not convicted of a felony or sufficient misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law.
- Complete oral interview.
- Pass a polygraph examination or equivalent.
- Pass a psychological evaluation.
- Pass physical examination.
- Pass firearms screening.
- Possess or obtain the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council Certificate and successfully complete the departmental Field Training.
