Court Visitor (ACS Contract - Multiple Vacancies)

The Alaska Court System is accepting applications from compassionate individuals interested in becoming Full-Time Court Visitors in Anchorage, Palmer, or Juneau, or a Part-Time Court Visitor in Kenai. Experience working with rural Alaska communities or knowledge of the uniquechallenges and opportunities of rural Alaska is preferred.

The starting hourly rate of pay is $45.00. After one year of successful employment, the rate of pay may increase to $50.00 per hour. Scheduled hours will vary by caseload.

These are full-time contracted positions with no benefits.

The ACS is required by Alaska Statute to provide court visitor services. The ACS contracts with individuals across the state to provide these services. A Court Visitor is appointed when a petition for adult guardianship or conservatorship is filed to investigate the involved person and their circumstances, and recommend to the court an appropriate resolution. Court Visitors are reappointed every three (3) years to review and report to the court regarding existing guardianship and conservatorship cases. Court Visitors also participate in psychotropic medication proceedings in psychiatric facilities, and offer an opinion as to whether the patient has capacity to give or withhold informed consent for medications. There is a mandatory 10-hour training that is reimbursed at the ACS training rate, however, given that Court Visitors are contractors, there is some unreimbursed training and administrative tasks. A valid driver's license is required. Mileage reimbursement and parking provided if needed.

We are recruiting for four positions across Alaska:

• Two positions will be based in either Anchorage or Palmer and will require travel between the two locations.
• One position will be based in Juneau and will require travel throughout Southeast Alaska.
• One position will be based in Kenai.

Ideal candidates should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities. Please detail these in the required letter of interest.

2. Excellent writing skills.
3. Ability to work cooperatively with a wide variety of individuals, including people with significant physical and mental impairments and varying socio-economic backgrounds.
4. Willingness to complete timely case reports on forms provided by the court.
5. Ability to remain objective and non-judgmental in making reports to the court.
6. Ability to hold information in confidence.
7. Strong time management skills.
8. Strong desire to help people and to further the goals of the monitoring project.
9. Willingness to provide own transportation.
10. Potential travel to make visits around the State of Alaska as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, or other related medical or mental health field preferred; or business or legal degree with experience/knowledge in the health and social services field.
• Work experience in the above fields can be substituted for the Bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
