Patrol Deputy
The Goodhue County Sheriff's Office is seeking qualified applicants for a Patrol Deputy opening and creating an eligibility list. The primary responsibilities and skills include, but are not limited to:
- Patrols county rural areas in the prevention and detection of crime.
- Responds to calls for assistance from the public involving criminal and non-criminal activities.
- Responds to all life-threatening situations and renders necessary aid.
- Gathers evidence from investigations, files reports with the department and testifies in court on related matters.
- Skill in the use of firearms and defensive tactics.
- Familiarity with the geographic make-up of Goodhue County.
Goodhue County Sheriff's Office offers opportunities for career advancement through the Goodhue/Wabasha County Emergency Response Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Dive Team, Drone Program, K9, Community Engagement Deputy, Training Deputy and Southeast MN Violent Crime Enforcement Team (SEMVCET). GCSO has an active Mental Wellness Program. We work with Lodestar Psychology and Consulting to provide "Neck Up Check Ups" as well as up to six individual sessions. A Peer Support program also provides resources in-house. Off-Duty, Goodhue County offers plenty of outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, hiking and boating.

Located in southeastern Minnesota, along the Mississippi River, Goodhue County's landscape is adorned by bluffs and water which offer its residents both recreation and beauty. The County seat of Red Wing is home to an abundance of outdoor activities, historic sites, and the world-famous Red Wing Boots and Pottery. Goodhue County encompasses 764 square miles which includes ten cities, twenty-one townships, and is home to an estimated 48,013 residents. Nearly all of the Prairie Island Indian Community is located within Goodhue County.
A rich sense of culture is displayed through art and theatre, as well as the many historical landmarks throughout the area. Medical services and facilities, provided by the Mayo Clinic, offer the community dynamic healthcare with a personal touch. While still providing all the resources of a larger community, Goodhue County creates a small town atmosphere making it a wonderful place for anyone to call home.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minnesota POST licensed as a full-time peace officer or able to obtain by date of hire.
- Thorough knowledge of the laws of city, county and federal governments as well as arrest procedures, search and seizure, and other functions of a peace officer.
Qualified applicants will also be able to pass a thorough background investigation and possess a valid driver's license.
Compensation & Benefits
The Patrol Deputy position is compensated at salary grade 112 of the Goodhue County pay scale. The full pay range for the Patrol Deputy is $35.51-$55.06 per hour ($73,860- $114,524 annually). Starting pay will be $73,860.
The County's comprehensive benefit package includes medical, dental and vision insurance, health savings account, employer paid life insurance, short and long term disability insurance, accident insurance, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, retirement plan, tax-deferred compensation, vacation and sick leave and 13 paid holidays per year. County employees are eligible for the Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. This is a LELS union local 91 position.
