Summary

Patrols assigned areas of the Medical Center to identify and/or respond to unsafe conditions and emergencyAnswer calls for service pertaining to unauthorized or illegal activity within the building or campus groundsRespond to emergencies and calls to assist with combative patients or visitors, fire alarms, infant/child abduction, active shooter etc.Perform inspections for hazards and unusual situations, lock or unlock doorsHandle trespassing issues, property receipt and issue, deceased patient transport etc.Test and inspect Public Safety and safety equipment throughout the campus monthlyExhibit customer excellence at all times and model the VH mission, vision and valuesDocument all rounds; write necessary reports about all incidents; submit reports by the end of the shift during which the pertinent incident occurredCommunicate information confidentially when necessaryRequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED requiredOne year of previous, law enforcement, public safety, college and/or fire departments is preferredValid driver's license requiredBLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved requiredAmerican Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation requiredInternational Association for Healthcare Public Safety and Safety Basic Exam within 1 year requiredASP baton, Handcuff, OC Foam Spray and aggression management training within 6 months requiredGood public relations and communication skills requiredCompetent to successfully interact with individuals of varying backgrounds and ethnicitiesAbility to display compassion when the situation calls and always look for ways to be of help to others requiredAbility to help ease pain and suffering, and help others requiredAvailable for duty assignment at any Valley Health System facility required (assignments may be temporary or permanent, dependent upon the needs of the VHS organization)Ability to work on alternate shifts and flex schedule requiredAbility to work on holidays and weekends requiredCore CompetenciesDemonstrates expertise in public safety protocols, emergency response, and effective communication while ensuring a safe environment for patients and visitors.
