A detail-oriented and organized professional with an interest in museum collections, preservation, research, and documentation who can support the care and interpretation of historically significant artifacts and records.
Job Summary
Under basic supervision, assists with the stewardship, management, documentation, registration, cataloging, preservation, and interpretation of the artifact and library collections of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum (TRHFM), including associated legal records and collections documentation. Supports collections care, research access, exhibitions, and compliance with museum standards and best practices.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, or a related field
- 6 months of experience with museum collections, including cataloging, documentation, preservation, or related activities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Assists with the preservation, care, and management of TRHFM artifact, library, and archival collections; assists with the development, installation, and maintenance of museum exhibits; and supports special events, educational programs, and presentations related to TRHFM topics.
- Assists with maintaining legal and collections documentation related to gifts, loans, acquisitions, and archival materials; documents and photographs incoming artifacts and archival collections; updates collections databases and records; and works with supervisory staff to ensure the security, preservation, and conservation of museum collections.
- Assists with proper handling, storage, inventory, and movement of museum collections in accordance with established museum standards and best practices.
- Maintains and ensures the accuracy of the museum’s collections database and digital records to support research, exhibitions, public access, educational programming, and collections-based initiatives.
- Develops and coordinates collections-related content for the TRHFM website, social media platforms, and online collections resources, including maintenance of the Past Perfect Online collections portal.
- Assists with the processing, organization, and preservation of archival materials and may assist with coordinating or supervising archives volunteers.

Governance and Organization
Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.
The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.
The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
