Definition and Class Characteristics

Nevada County Social Services is looking for a dynamic co-leader for the Eligibility Team. Our Program Manager directs the staff of Eligibility and Employment and works as an integral part of a leadership team. This division of the Department of Social Services provides compassionate assistance, support, and services to meet the basic needs of our citizens. The Program Manager works closely with internal and external partners to ensure efficiency, maintain positive culture, and provide critical services to our customers.

Examples of Duties

The ideal candidate will:
  • Develop and review program policies and procedures specific to assigned area.
  • Supervise assigned staff including reviewing and approving employee schedules, ensuring staff training and development, completing employee performance evaluations, and assigning and reviewing work. Conducting informal counseling on work issues, preparing documentation and improvement plans for deficiencies, and recommending disciplinary action may be included in this scope of duties.
  • Interview and make recommendations regarding filling of positions.
  • Interpret and apply provisions of law, rules, and regulations related to program area.
  • Review and respond to correspondence and other forms of communication sent by a wide variety of individuals.
  • Conduct safety and staff meetings with assigned staff.
  • Provide professional and technical consultation on complex program matters, participating in the actual work of the program area on particularly complex, difficult, or sensitive projects.
  • Prepare grant, budget, and other material such as Requests for Proposals, Requests for Qualifications, and other information, as needed by the program Board meetings, Board task forces, community organizations, interagency committee and other meetings and conferences.
  • Prepare for and staff emergency shelters when evacuations or weather events occur.


Education and Experience Required

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field with three years of experience in the program at the advanced journey level. A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field with two years of experience in the program area at the advanced journey level is also accepted.
This position is full-time and fully benefited. Ameritas Dental is the dental provider offered through Nevada County and Ameritas VSP Vision Care is our vision care provider.
Retirement
The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and also provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.

Scenic trails, alpine lakes, the Yuba River and the Sierra Nevada Mountains all support numerous recreation activities, including skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, hunting and backpacking. With a calendar packed with street fairs, festivals, art exhibits, local theater and children’s activities, visitors and locals can experience small-town life without having to forgo indulgence in pleasures more typical of an urban setting. 

 

Arts and Culture:

Nevada County is a creative hotspot in the Sierra Nevada, offering an array of experiences, including concerts, film festivals, street fairs, dance performances, poetry readings, studio tours and galleries. The county also has numerous venues for performing arts, many of which are historic settings. The arts have a large economic impact, which has become a vital component to life in Nevada County.
