Description

FULL TIME LECTURER/MECHANICAL ENGINEERING - The Mechanical Engineering Department within the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, invites applications for two Full Time Lecturers of Mechanical Engineering during the academic year of 24/25 with possibility of a one-year extension contingent upon department need and satisfactory evaluations. This is an opportunity for candidates who have a passion for teaching and the practice of mechanical engineering. Primary duties will be teaching fundamental courses in Mechanical Engineering, such as design communication, engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, or mechanical design.

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2022, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

Lecturer A: $4,530-$6,056
Lecturer B: $5,405-$11,994
Lecturer C: $6,190-$13,172
Lecturer D: $7,794-$13,797

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have an earned Bachelor’s Degree (BSME) in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field. Commitment to student-centered teaching and learning, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary settings is required. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is also required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with advanced degrees in Mechanical Engineering and closely related fields or those with significant industry experience or Mechanical Engineering teaching experience.

Preference will also be given to those with experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Located on the central coast of California, the Cal Poly Mechanical Engineering program is nationally recognized for its focus on undergraduate and Masters level education through a laboratory-intensive, hands-on curriculum. The department is a dedicated community of faculty, staff, and students who strive to design innovative solutions to complex societal problems through creativity and engineering expertise. The department has over 1200 BSME undergraduates and 50 MSME students. The undergraduate program includes five concentrations: Energy Resources, HVAC&R, Manufacturing, Mechatronics and a General Concentration, which culminates with a full year industry-sponsored senior project experience.
